A Legacy Reawakened
In 2013, a palpable sense of approaching gloom embittered the mood of the Russian people, who were resigned to the political trajectory of their government.
It was in this environment that the Russian arm of Pushkin Legacy curtailed its activities and left Russia, never to return. Under the dark clouds of war that ensued, Pushkin Legacy went into a prolonged period of quiet reflection.

Now, after these many years, the Pushkin Legacy rises once again, working in Europe and the U.S., to serve its founding mission -- to inspire a new generation, advocating for peace and awareness through cultural initiatives under the aegis of the Great Russian Poet - whose legacy belongs to the world.

A Masterpiece of Dark Comedy and Satire
(In One Act)
Inspired by Franz Kafka & Alexander Pushkin with a nod to William Shakespeare, Walt Whitman and George Orwell
Fringe Festival / Braw Theatre, Edinburgh Scotland — August 7–31, 2026
Julian Henry Lowenfeld's Kafka for Beginners is a fiercely stylized descent into the machinery of state-sanctioned madness. This is no mere play, but a fevered cry from the belly of an empire rotten with its own myth-making. Here, power has calcified into ritual, and truth is a currency long outlawed...

In contrast to the unrelentingly bleak totalitarian nightmares of Kafka and Orwell, Lowenfeld's play marshals not just a sense of humor, but the forces of poetry, music and love to leaven the bitterness. He movingly argues that 'if we but live with love, then we must live in truth. For loving is the opposite of lying.' His wrongly imprisoned poet never gives up, never accepts the state's official ideology that 'two plus two is five,' no matter what threats or blandishments get offered him by his charmingly cynical interrogator.

Letter from the Founder

The poet Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin is not merely a literary icon - he is the embodiment of the best aspects of Russian culture, its spirit and its soul.

When I founded the Pushkin Legacy in 1997, it was with a deep sense of purpose: to preserve his legacy, promote cultural understanding, and uplift the human spirit through meaningful initiatives. Since then, the Legacy has quietly but steadily contributed to a range of projects that honor his life and message—conservation and restoration work, international conferences, charitable galas, publications, and social welfare programs.

Today, as we revive the Pushkin Legacy for a new era, we remain committed to a mission that transcends borders. We aim to build international goodwill and support bold thinkers, scholars, and artists whose work reflects the depth and universality of Pushkin’s vision. Pushkin once wrote, "I have built a monument not wrought by hands." The Pushkin Legacy seeks to preserve that monument—not of stone, but of ideas and ideals. A monument built from language, thought, and spirit—a light to guide future generations.

With gratitude and conviction,

Kenneth Pushkin
